There are few games as highly anticipated as Grand Theft Auto 6, with its predecessor Grand Theft Auto 5 being the third highest-selling video game of all time. Ever since the release of the fifth installment back in September of 2013, fans have patiently awaited the return of Grand Theft Auto, but have not been given any indication of when they might see it. Though, Rockstar may have inadvertently provided its fans with a clue to the game's development.
Grand Theft Auto is one of video gaming's most successful and long-lasting franchises. Since its initial release back in 1997, the series has sold well over 280 million copies worldwide over the span of multiple games, making it the fourth highest-selling video game franchise of all time. In fact, Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to be downloaded and played by new players a full seven years after its initial release.
That being said, seven years is an incredibly long time to wait for a new installment, and fans have started to get restless. Though, in the past year alone, there have been numerous rumors and leaks floating around regarding the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. The latest news regarding the highly anticipated title comes in the form of a job posting on Rockstar Games' career page.
Rockstar recently posted a job application on their career page for a Technical Build Engineer. A position that requires experience with various programming languages and excellent communication skills. Though, something to note is that the job description mentions that the candidate will "work closely with developers and QA to ensure builds are stable upon release." This strongly implies that Rockstar is working on a new project and requires additional staff. This job listing does appear to coincide with what Rockstar mentioned at the beginning of the year in terms of expecting Grand Theft Auto news.
That being said, there has been a lot of support in terms of official Grand Theft Auto 6 news, especially the leak regarding the former Rockstar employee. 2020 will mark the seventh year since the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 so Rockstar has certainly taken its sweet time getting to this point. Hopefully, when it comes time for the company to deliver, fans will not be disappointed.
