4A Games’ post-apocalyptic shooter was originally due to launch on Valve’s storefront on February 15, 2019, but just two weeks before the planned release its publisher confirmed that the PC version would instead to be available exclusively through the Epic Games Store for one year.
Metro Exodus made its long-awaited Steam debut this month, launching with an introductory 40% discount, which has now ended.
Speaking during an earnings presentation on Tuesday, Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors said: “Metro [Exodus] performed well on Epic and I was happy with the performance on the Epic Games Store, but that doesn’t say I’m not happy with the Steam performance either, so it’s been great [in] the first days.
“I think it’s just a great game, people just love playing great games, and I hope it will continue to perform well over the coming years on all platforms.”
According to Steam Charts, the game’s peak concurrent player count on Steam currently stands at 15,357, recorded the day after its release.
It’s a big month for the Metro series. The second DLC expansion for Metro Exodus, Sam’s Story, launched on February 11, while Metro Redux will be released for Nintendo Switch on February 28.
During Embracer Group’s presentation on Tuesday, Wingefors also said fellow Deep Silver published game Shenmue 3 has performed “fine” financially but has proved to be a “a core niche product”.
And Embracer announced a deal to acquire Saber Interactive, the New Jersey, US-based development studio behind 2019’s World War Z, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered and The Witcher 3: Complete Edition for Switch.
