Cyberpunk Game 'Ruiner' Coming to Nintendo Switch

A Twitter post has revealed that Ruiner, the cyberpunk top-down shooter developed by Polish studio Reikon Games and published by Devolver Digital, will soon be coming to Nintendo Switch.
Released in 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Ruiner will now be making its way to the Nintendo Switch so that players can take the story-driven action shooter with them on the go. The exact date of the port’s launch has yet to be disclosed, but the Twitter announcement contained the binary code “01010011 01001111 01001111 01001110,” which translates into English as “soon.” So it’s safe to assume that the game will be released sometime this year.

Set in the cyberpunk future of 2091, Ruiner takes place in the city of Rengkok, also know as purgatory, a place where dreams supposedly come true and people are free to be whoever they want to be. But this is a dystopian cyberpunk world, so that’s likely not true. The player controls a masked and silent protagonist called Puppy as he sets out on a mission to rescue his kidnapped brother from the grasp of Heaven, the leading Virtuality company in the metropolis.

In the game, Puppy has a skill tree that players can respec for free at any time, which will be necessary in order to tactically prepare for different battles. There are also a number of gadgets that grant Puppy different abilities, such as a charge that knocks back enemies and a dash that can be used to dodge or quickly get into the thick of things. Knowing when to respec or switch out gadgets is key for coming out on top in combat. For example, one enemy might use projectiles, requiring the use of an energy shield to survive the fight, while another opponent might charge at Puppy with melee weapons that render the shield useless.

A few media outlets gave Ruiner middling review scores, in part due to the difficulty level that results in repeated frustrating deaths and the lack of variety in levels and enemy types. Overall, however, the critical and player reception of the game was positive, with praise for the game’s compelling graphic style, synthwave soundtrack, clean combat, and intriguing story.
In the same Twitter post, in response to a follower’s question about upcoming titles, Reikon Games responded that its next project is also set in a dark cyberpunk future and promised that more info on that game would be coming soon.
